In The Tall Grass! Review

In The Tall Grass! I loved the concept of this movie and the fact that its based off a novella by Stephen King makes it even better. The writing was excellent and it keeps you guessing and wondering what’s going to happen next. You really have to pay attention to the details to understand. The films pacing picks up speed quick and I think that helps you understand the sudden panic the characters are in the they realize something isn’t right. There is a good moment in the movie that makes you say “Oh Sh*t!”, and nothing makes sense afterwards. But don’t worry, all of your questions will get answered in the end…sort of. Craig Wrobleski’s cinematography is good, not the best I’ve seen but good nonetheless and it works for the movie. It helps set the tone with the intense scenes with Patrick Wilson. Mark Korven’s score was good but really only in moments during the films climax and some scenes after. The attention to detail (you will know what I’m talking if you watch it) was actually really good and I really like when writers are able to keep continuity intact. This movie is actually really good and I highly recommend it if you’re into suspenseful thrillers!

The Haunting of Hill House!

Hill House Season One! This show is really good and really scary and I loved every second of it! We follow The Craine kids, now adults, after they are brought together after a tragedy and we see them dealing with the ghosts that haunt them in their lives. The character development in this show is incredible and it really makes you feel a connection to to each of them. The cast couldn’t have been any better, each person did their character great in their own way. I liked the cinematography in the show, and I feel like some horror movies and shows mess up with the cinematography and it just doesn’t work but Michael Fimognari really delivered in this one; the use of light and color on specific characters was amazing! The Newton Brothers score really complimented the cinematography and it was really nice to see and hear how everything flowed smoothly. The way the music intensified in certain scenes was amazing and setup perfectly timed jump scares. The writing was some of the best I’ve ever seen! The way each episode was entered around a certain character and how they kept every detail connected was just great. I really enjoyed Season 1 and I can’t wait for Season 2! This show is on Netflix by the way, so definitely go check it out.

”The Peanut Butter Falcon” Movie Review

This is a beautiful film! Not only is this movie funny but it’s also sweet, beautiful and full of heart. Zak (Zack Gottsagen) runs away from his nursing home in hopes of becoming a pro wrestler and in his way he meets fisherman Tyler (Shia LaBeouf). Their journey is amazing and fun to watch. LaBeouf and Gottsagen have such good chemistry in this and watching their characters develop this relationship was a joy to watch. Dakota Johnson (Eleanor) is fantastic as well, she really compliments the relationship between Zak and Tyler. I highly recommend you go see this movie because it’s such a treat and directors Tyler Nilson and Michael Schwartz tells this beautiful story that’s heart warming and you just have to see it for yourself!

Psychological Thrill Ride! “Enemy” Movie Review

This movie is a psychological thrill ride! Jake Gyllenhaal delivers an epic performance as both Adam Bell and Anthony Claire. Mild Spoilers ahead Bell is a history teacher who finds a look-a-like of himself in a movie and decides to investigate it. This is where it gets crazy and the plot starts to unravel. Director Denis Villeneuve really makes you think and pay attention to the small details. Its starts off in a strange way but it sets the tone and lets you know what kind of film this is gonna be. Nicholas Bolduc’s cinematography is good in this one, I noticed there was a big emphasis on yellow with the lighting but I think it helped the film in creating this mystery around the characters. The films Score really makes you feel the intensity and sometimes thats hard to do but with “Enemy”, its done right and done well. If you like a good thriller/mystery, I highly recommend this film. I think the movie is very underrated and deserves more attention because it really pays attention to the smallest details and has an ending that leaves you thinking and wanting more to the story. There is a huge twist at the end but you’ll have to watch it for yourself because its unexpected. I know its based off a book but I’m unfamiliar with it, so I don’t know how it compares to that.

“The Mule” Movie Review

Clint Eastwood delivers another great performance in this one! Not only does he star in it, Eastwood also directed it. We follow Earl Stone (Clint Eastwood) as he becomes very successful drug mule for the cartel. This movies pace is slow but it’s the little details that make it really good. Eastwood’s directing skills really shine in this because of the way he develops his character. We see Stone go from a guy who didn’t want to be around his family, to a guy who wants nothing more than to be with his family. We see this just by the small interactions he has with other characters and I think that’s excellent character development. Eastwood’s longtime cinematographer Yves Bélanger did a wonderful job with the films cinematography and was complimented by Arturo Sandoval’s music. The film also pulls on the heart strings when we see Stone’s ex-wife pass away just as he’s starting to get back in the family. As I mentioned before, the film does have a slow pace but man is the storytelling really good and it shows because it was also nominated for “Best Drama” at the Golden Trailer Awards. Overall this is hands down one Eastwood’s best performances and I hope you give this movie a try and See what you think!

P.S: Bradley Cooper is also in it!

“The Stanford Prison Experiment” Movie Review

Set in 1971, this film is based on the true event of the controversial Stanford Prison Experiment. We watch as Philip Zimbardo (Billy Crudup) conducts his psychological experiment on male college students to research a prisons impact on human behavior. Director Kyle Patrick Alvarez does a really good job with this film. The way he shows the impact this experiment has on the prisoners and the way the guards quickly adapted to their role is incredible. The pace of this movie moves at a steady pace but picks up speed at certain moments. Michael Angarano steals the show as prison guard John Wayne. He really embraces the role and it’s truly amazing to watch. Ezra Miller does great as Prisoner 8612 as we watch this experiment get completely out of control. Jas Shelton’s cinematography is pretty good in the film as it really sets the tone. The real Stanford Experiment is just as crazy the movie because of how accurate the movie is. Overall this is a really good movie and I recommend it if you’re into psychology or movies based on true events!

Buried Alive! “Buried” Movie Review

This movie is intense! It really making you feel like you’re choking for air along with Paul Conroy (Ryan Reynolds). Rodrigo Cotrés does a good job with this movie for many reasons. One being the fact that it makes you feel so claustrophobic. It was probably very difficult to achieve that, but he did it well. Reynolds realy delivers in this one. The way he acts in each scene whether it’s the snake or when the sand starts pouring through the wood, he makes you think what you would do if you were in the horrifying situation. There not really much of a story other than the fact that Paul Conroy is trying to get rescued. The phone call to his mother was very emotional, it really made you feel for him. The pacing starts to off slow but picks up very fast in the third act once the the coffin starts to collapse. This is probably one of the most horrifying non-horror movies out there and I highly recommend you watch it if you haven’t already seen it!

“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” Review

Directors Peter Ramsey, Bob Persichetti, and Rodney Rothman really do a fantastic job on this film. The animation and art is the movie is beyond amazing! The time, patience, and talent that went into making the art for this movie really pays off because it’s what makes the movie what it is. It’s no wonder why it won the Academy Award for “Best Animated Feature Film”. Shameik Moore was perfect casting as he brings Miles Morales to life for the first time on the big screen. Jake Johnson was also a very good choice for Spider-Man. What I really liked most about this movie was Miles overcoming the struggles of learning about his new powers and trying to save everyone and then animation really helped capture those emotions and it was very well done. The soundtrack was also very well put together as each song really help set tone for each scene, especially the “Leap of Faith” scene! Man that was such an epic and inspiring moment and the song really helped with that. This movie is truly something special and even if you aren’t into comics, I still recommend this movie for you to watch. I can’t wait for the sequel! Hopefully we can Tom Holland, Toby Maguire, and Andrew Garfield in it and let them have a scene together.

Where did my Van Gogh? “At Eternity’s Gate” Review

Set in 1890 Arles, France, director Julian Schnabel beautiful captures the story of famed post-impressionist artist Vincent Van Gogh. The pacing of the movie isn’t slow but it isn’t fast, it’s just right enough for his story to be told properly. Schnabel does a great job by letting the viewer understand the pain that Van Gogh is going through. Willem Dafoe gives an excellent performance as Van Gogh, whether it’s when Van Gogh is at his happiest or in his darkest moments, you can really tell Dafoe gave this performance his all. It’s no surprise that Dafoe won the Vulpi Cup for best actor. Benoît Delhomme’s cinematography makes the biopic even better. #AtEternitysGate is by far one of my favorite films of 2018 and I highly recommend it.

Batman: Hush Review

Hush! This movie is honestly pretty good. It hits in most of the important stuff from the comics. The comic book is actually really really good and I recommend you read it! But with the movie doesn’t really do it justice. There’s a twist at the end that anticlimactic. Comic fans will pick up on it about halfway through. But that’s probably the only negative I have for this movie, other than it’s really good. We get to see Batman’s rogues gallery and it was nice to see their take on Scarecrow. Catwoman was amazing! To finally get to see the Bat/Cat relationship unfold was fun while it lasted but I’m sure they are gonna bring it back. It’s sucks we didn’t get to see the classic nod to Jason Todd like in the comics. Tim Drake’s Robin was surprisingly not mentioned in the movie, especially since it takes place in the New 52 continuity. Overall Batman: Hush is a good Batman movie to watch and I really enjoyed it and I’m excited to see what DC has planned for the future! I think the next DCAU movie is gonna be Wonder Woman: Bloodlines.
