Where did my Van Gogh? “At Eternity’s Gate” Review

Set in 1890 Arles, France, director Julian Schnabel beautiful captures the story of famed post-impressionist artist Vincent Van Gogh. The pacing of the movie isn’t slow but it isn’t fast, it’s just right enough for his story to be told properly. Schnabel does a great job by letting the viewer understand the pain that Van Gogh is going through. Willem Dafoe gives an excellent performance as Van Gogh, whether it’s when Van Gogh is at his happiest or in his darkest moments, you can really tell Dafoe gave this performance his all. It’s no surprise that Dafoe won the Vulpi Cup for best actor. Benoît Delhomme’s cinematography makes the biopic even better. #AtEternitysGate is by far one of my favorite films of 2018 and I highly recommend it.
